Generally, do check what is your country's allowance for personal consumption as it may affect your tax & duties.
From my personal online shipping experience, these will make my parcel pass through without tax.
1. the total of item value + international shipping is below USD$100-$200
2. remove all price tag and item's package / box (so it will tell that it is not for resale)
3. small quantities
4. parcel box is small, normally my parcel is around 3-5kg
